My Approach to Architecture
Beyond Blueprints: Rethinking the Role of the Architect
I’ve been practicing architecture for over a decade — long enough to know that good design isn’t just about getting the plans right. It’s about getting the person right.
What I’ve found helpful in this profession is the way it trains you to see the big picture: how light moves, how materials breathe, how people live within a space. But what I’ve found less helpful? The pressure to always be perfect — and to design from the outside in, instead of the inside out.
My approach is different.
At Board and Batten, I start by listening — not just to your wishlist, but to your lifestyle. How do you move through your mornings? Where do you feel most yourself? What routines are you outgrowing? These are design questions, too.
Whether you’re planning a new build or adjusting a corner of your life, the process should feel supportive, not overwhelming. I believe in thoughtful edits, human-scale choices, and space for real life to unfold — mess and all.
Architecture isn’t about perfection. It’s about alignment. When your space matches your values, everything flows more easily.
If you’re curious what that might look like for you, I offer virtual sessions designed to meet you exactly where you are.
